Stakeholder participation in the first VNR
Objective
Conduct inclusive and participatory consultations as part of the first VNR, and prepare a VNR that reflects the contributions of all stakeholders.
Overview
Multi-stakeholder participation was a key element of the VNR, with consultative workshops held with representatives of civil society organizations, women’s groups, persons with disabilities, young people, academia, think tanks, the private sector (telecommunications companies and banks), and federal member states.
The consultations provided an opportunity to review progress in the implementation of the SDGs and identify the remaining gaps as well as validate relevant data.
A media campaign was organized in conjunction with the consultations to provide coverage thereof and raise public awareness of the 2030 Agenda, its Goals and the State’s commitment to its implementation.
Challenges
- Lack of monitoring of SDG implementation, poor coordination, and time constraints that have made it more difficult to produce a comprehensive VNR report that effectively reflects the contributions of all stakeholders and the different perspectives.
- Budget constraints and the timing of consultations that coincided with presidential elections, affecting the ability to ensure the full and inclusive participation of relevant stakeholders in the VNR.
