Stakeholder participation in the first VNR

Objective

Implement the first VNR by adopting a participatory and inclusive approach.

Overview

Consultations were held with various beneficiaries to assess their level of awareness in relation to the 2030 Agenda and its Goals. The consultations helped deepen understanding of the mechanisms used by civil society organizations and the private sector to support the implementation and monitoring of the SDGs, the challenges they face and how to overcome them, and the partnerships established with the private sector to support their implementation.

The consultations were complemented by meetings with representatives of ministries to gather more information on good practices and key challenges in the implementation of the SDGs, and on how to strengthen monitoring of the implementation of the SDGs and their indicators.

A national workshop was held to review and adopt the draft VNR report, which reflected the results of the consultations and the views of various stakeholders.

Challenges

Stakeholders based in inland areas have not incorporated the principles and Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development into their work, despite awareness campaigns in place since 2016.
