Partnerships for Sustainable Development platform
Objective
Monitor stakeholder contributions, areas of work and interlinkages through an electronic platform, which enables the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development to shed light on successes and identify gaps and areas most in need of support, funding and partnership-building.
Overview
The Egyptian Ministry of Planning launched the “Partnerships for Sustainable Development” platform in line with the 2021 VNR recommendation on strengthening partnerships. The platform provides an opportunity for multi-stakeholders from the private sector, civil society and international development partners to document their efforts in achieving sustainability in Egypt and in implementing the Egypt Vision 2030 and the 2030 Agenda.
The platform includes an electronic form that interested parties could use to provide information on their projects, activities and associated SDGs. The form is divided into two parts:
- Initiatives: To monitor and compile initiatives, projects and studies that support the achievement of sustainable development in Egypt, and to monitor the challenges that partners face in implementing those initiatives.
- Supportive environment: To collect information on government policies, laws, regulations, legislation and initiatives that create a supportive environment for companies, organizations and entities to enhance their activities and efforts in achieving sustainable development in Egypt.
Many partners have already included their initiatives on the platform, enabling discussions to be held around these initiatives during the consultation phase of the 2021 VNR.
Challenges
- Difficulty in motivating a wide range of stakeholders to provide their input on the platform.
- Inability to verify the accuracy of the information provided on the platform.
- Difficulty in ensuring long-term sustainability.
