Objective
- Adopt an integrated, multi-sectoral and participatory approach to the sustainable development of cities to highlight their contribution to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda;
- Enhance the capacities of local actors to engage in dialogue, establish coordination and synergy, and benefit from the local strategic planning experience to share and replicate experiences.
Overview
The municipalities of seven Tunisian cities worked on developing sustainable development strategies and adopted a participatory approach therein to ensure the contribution of civil society organizations, young people organizations and organizations working on women’s issues. This was implemented within the framework of the Cities Alliance country programme, in coordination with UNDP, and in partnership with a number of local and international actors. This approach enables different actors to contribute effectively to decision-making and the implementation of local policies that are aligned with the SDGs. It also ensures the inclusion of all stakeholders, in particular young people, women and representatives of vulnerable groups.
