Documenting the results of multi-stakeholder consultations

Objective

Gain a better understanding of the extent to which different stakeholders are familiar with the 2030 Agenda and its Goals, discuss challenges in their implementation, and solicit comments on the findings of the VNR report and recommendations on the way forward in the implementation of the SDGs.

Overview

Consultations with various stakeholders were held as part of the 2022 VNR, through workshops, meetings and focus group discussions, which included written inputs that informed the finalization of the VNR report.

Consultations were held at the national and subnational levels with government officials, youth and women’s organizations, non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations, and academic and research institutions. A summary of the various consultations was included in an annex to the VNR report, which presents the challenges and issues discussed, as well as the main recommendations and outcomes of the consultations, with a view to enhancing transparency, follow-up and multi-stakeholder engagement in achieving the SDGs.

The preparation of the VNR was guided by reports prepared by the Sudanese Business and Employers Federation and the National Audit Chamber on their SDG activities and their role in implementing the SDGs.

A workshop was organized to audit the VNR report, and was attended by members of the SDG Technical Committee, technical teams responsible for preparing in-depth reports on six SDGs under review, government representatives, representatives from the Central Bureau of Statistics, the National Audit Chamber and academia.

Challenges

• Suspension of a large number of subnational development projects due to political instability, mismanagement, and lack of funding and human capacity.
• Failure to integrate the SDGs and the principles of the 2030 Agenda into development plans and projects at the subnational level.
• Lack of media coverage and a media strategy to raise public awareness of the 2030 Agenda.
• Limited data due to lack of funding for statistical work and technical capacities.
