Development of voluntary local reports

Objective

Provide an objective assessment of SDG implementation in the Governorates to channel resources effectively and meaningfully.

Overview

Three Governorates were selected as a pilot for report development, namely Port Said, Beheira and Faiyum. The selection was based on a number of objective criteria, including the Governorate’s readiness to prepare the report, its vision on how to benefit from the report, and geographical representation.

The reporting process relied on cooperation between the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and the three Governorates, with the support of UNDP. It included a number of field visits and participatory workshops in the Governorates with various relevant stakeholders, with the aim of building the capacity of local cadres and collecting data and information on SDG progress.

The voluntary local reporting process followed the same structure as the voluntary national reporting process to ensure linkage between the two.

  • Poor awareness of the 2030 Agenda at the local level.
  • Limited availability and quality of data at the local level.
