Contribution of field visits to the enrichment of the VNR report

Objective

Organize field visits to collect more information on certain aspects of the identified SDGs to enrich the content of the report and strengthen evidence.

Overview

The team responsible for drafting the VNR report carried out two field visits, one to the city of Nouadhibou and the other to the regions of Brakna and Gorgol. The visits served to refine information on SDGs 12, 13, 14 and 15 as well as information collected through the review of sectoral strategies and development programmes and projects and resulting from working sessions with government departments responsible for sectoral development policies.

The first field visit facilitated the analysis of the marine environment and the situation of the main productive sectors, namely fishing and mining. The second field visit enabled an analysis of the terrestrial environment and an assessment of the results of some programmes and projects targeting the poorest populations, such as social services projects and cash transfer programmes.

These field visits were organized in coordination with local authorities and included working sessions with local administrative and municipal officials. Industrial companies in Nouadhibou and beneficiaries of programmes and projects targeting the poorest populations in the regions of Brakna and Gorgol were contacted to obtain practical information on the changes resulting from these interventions and to adapt development projects to their needs.
